Hematopathology The University of Chicago Department of Pathology offers a one- or two-year accredited hematopathology fellowship. The fellowship is designed to prepare individuals for a career in diagnostic hematopathology, by providing training in morphologic, flow cytometric, immunohistochemical and molecular techniques. During the first year, trainees will concentrate on diagnostic skills. Over 1,200 bone marrow specimens and lymph node biopsy specimens from pediatric and adult patients in the University Hospitals are submitted to the section each year for diagnosis. In addition, about 500 outside cases are received in consultation or for diagnosis for cooperative study groups. The fellows are encouraged to participate in research studies during their first year, and participation is required for those wishing to stay a second year. |
Requirements A minimum of three years' training in anatomic pathology or four years' training that combines anatomic and clinical pathology. The candidate must be able to obtain an Illinois medical license. Stipend Commensurate with level of training.
